Colay / Guides

When you do product, analysis and copy alone, audit the subscriptions behind the work

Four AI subscriptions can feel essential while only a few recurring tasks justify them. Before consolidating, record what you actually produce and which features you genuinely need. Colay can bring available models into one workspace, but the right decision depends on completed work, credits and retained specialist tools—not simply the number of logos on a pricing page.

Start with a week of work, not a list of brands

For an ordinary working week, keep a short diary whenever you use AI. Record the task, service, feature, output used and correction needed. Include abandoned drafts. A tool opened frequently may still contribute little; a tool used once may provide a capability your delivery depends on.

Mark whether the job needs a particular model, a particular application feature or simply a usable answer. Those are different reasons to keep a subscription. FinOps' framework focuses on business value and cost accountability; our diary below is a small, proposed application of that principle for a solo workflow.

Make the diary specific enough to change a decision

Use your own tasks to test a possible replacement. In Colay, start with one available agent; compare separate answers where a meaningful choice exists. Reserve Consensus for work that benefits from examining several contributions. Generating more answers for a routine rewrite can add cost and review effort without improving the finished result.

Compare the complete monthly total

Use this equation: proposed total = Colay plan + expected extra usage + subscriptions you retain. Keep the existing total beside it. Check your actual account terms, renewal dates, credit limits and any required features before removing an expense. A provider's full application is not automatically included because its model is accessible.

Fictional arithmetic only: four services at $20 each total $80. If a proposed workspace costs $25, expected extra usage is $10 and a retained tool costs $20, the new total is $55, a difference of $25. These numbers are not Colay prices or an observed saving. Replace every input with your own figures and test a busier month as well.

Also record your time spent repairing results and moving context. Keep time and subscription money visible as separate measures unless you have a defensible internal hourly value. Do not count the same saved time twice or describe unused capacity as money already recovered.

A prompt for a subscription review, not a sales verdict

Check the recommendation against your diary. A model cannot determine that a rarely used feature is unnecessary without knowing its role in your work. Keep that decision explicit, especially when one client depends on a specialist output format or a specific tool.

Review this AI task diary and expense list: [permitted entries]. For each subscription, identify the actual jobs it supports, unique required features, possible overlap and missing evidence before cancellation. Proposed replacement capabilities and limits: [verified facts]. Return keep, test replacement or consider cancellation, with a reason and a next check. Calculate totals only from provided numbers. Do not assume every provider feature is included in a model aggregator or invent prices.

Consolidate one proven overlap at a time

Move a recurring task first and retain the original output standard. After a representative trial, compare usable results, editing time and consumption. If the replacement fails a required capability, keep the existing tool or revise the plan. Cancel only after you have preserved any needed records and understood the actual renewal conditions.

The goal is a smaller set of expenses that serves your work reliably. One subscription can be a useful entry point without replacing everything. Open Colay with one task from your diary, check the available agents and run the same brief you already know how to assess.

Questions, answered

Does one Colay subscription replace four subscriptions?

It may replace overlapping tasks, but that depends on the features and usage you need. Verify each workflow and include retained tools and extra usage in the comparison.

Should I compare price per model?

For a solo workflow, usable completed tasks and required capabilities are usually more informative. A long catalog does not show whether your work fits the limits.

Is the $25 difference a Colay saving?

No. It is fictional arithmetic demonstrating the cost equation. Use the prices and consumption applicable to your own account.
